About this Event
Please join the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability and the Media (PCSSM) in hosting PCSSM Senior Research Fellow Dr. Joseph Romm for a book talk and event on his upcoming book “The Hype About Hydrogen: False Promises and Real Solutions in the Race to Save the Climate” which critically examines hydrogen and other “false promises” as well as the real climate solutions that can be scaled up now. It is a complete revision and update to his 2004 book. He presents a compelling analysis of the risks and inefficiencies of hydrogen, fusion, e-fuels, and small nuclear reactors—warning that misallocated investments in these technologies could exceed $1 trillion by 2040.
Romm was Acting Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the 1990s, overseeing a $1 billion budget on climate solutions. He holds an MIT physics PhD, has authored 11 books, and is a Senior Research Fellow at the UPenn Center for Science, Sustainability, and the Media where he researches climate solutions. In 2009, Rolling Stone named him one of 100 “People Who Are Reinventing America” and Time named him “The Web’s most influential climate-change blogger.” Nobel-prize-winning economist Paul Krugman said, “I have learned a lot of what I know about energy economics from Joe Romm."
With decades of expertise, Romm delivers well-researched and thought-provoking insights that are essential to the climate conversation. We hope you can join us for this engaging discussion!
PCSSM Director Dr. Michael Mann will introduce Dr. Romm and the event.
This event will be in person and books will be available for purchase and signing at the end of the event. Beverages and snacks will be available for event attendees.
