About this Event
An immersive social experience exploring how a house becomes a home.
For one evening during London Design Festival, Sonderhaus invites visitors to step inside The House We Carry, an immersive experience exploring the sounds, memories and everyday rituals that make somewhere feel like home.
Rather than watching a performance or listening to a talk, visitors are invited to inhabit the flat.
Each room holds a different domestic soundscape. In the kitchen, the sounds of plates, cutlery and cooking suggest a meal being prepared. In the bedrooms, distant voices, children playing and other fragments of domestic life evoke memories of homes lived in, left behind or imagined. In the living room, softer sounds of conversation and everyday activity create a space for people to simply spend time together.
Throughout the house, visitors can play cards and board games, read, sit, talk, have tea or simply listen.
Cards and pens placed throughout the flat invite visitors to contribute their own memories through questions such as:
What makes somewhere feel like home?
What sound takes you home?
Do you feel at home here?
Their responses remain in the space, gradually transforming the flat into a living archive of the people who have passed through it.
There is no performance to watch and no set route to follow.
Come in. Take your time. Make yourself at home.
About Sonderhaus
Sonderhaus creates intentional social and cultural experiences designed around connection, participation and belonging. Rather than simply bringing people into the same room, its projects explore the conditions that help strangers interact, share experiences and feel part of something.
