About this Event
Since 1676, a small shop on St James’s Street has dressed the heads that shaped history. To celebrate our 350th anniversary, we invite you to an evening in the oldest hat shop in the world.
Arrive to a glass of champagne and step inside No. 6, where our makers have recreated twelve extraordinary hats, each one made entirely in-house as a tribute to the craft that has carried on here for centuries. Each tells a story: of Nelson at sea, of Wilde’s bold arrival in America, of Churchill and the power of a well-chosen hat, of Hollywood glamour, and of a lucky escape in the Blitz.
You will be guided through the story by our historian and maker, Freddie Deane, who will take you from the origins of the hat in antiquity to the techniques still used at the workbench today. Meet the person who brings these hats back to life, ask your questions, and see the craft up close.
An evening of history, character and craftsmanship, with plenty of time to mingle afterwards. Places are limited.
