About this Event

MAKE SURE YOU CAN ATTEND ALL THREE DATES BEFORE BOOKING YOUR SPOT ❗

Your next step into the world of handpan

Whether you loved your first workshop or have never played before, The Handpan Journey gives you time to develop your skills, build confidence and enjoy making music.

Across three two-hour group lessons, you’ll explore rhythm, melody and harmony in a relaxed, welcoming setting at the Cambridge Spiritualist Centre.

Each session builds on the previous one, helping you move from individual sounds and simple patterns towards playing music that feels connected and expressive.

No previous musical experience or ability to read music is needed. If you’ve already attended a Discover the Handpan workshop, this is a natural next step. If you’re completely new, we’ll guide you through the foundations.

Course Dates and Times

Your ticket covers all three sessions:

  • Saturday 28 November 2026: 3:00–5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday 2 December 2026: 6:00–8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday 9 December 2026: 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Please make sure you can attend all three dates before booking.

Venue: Cambridge Spiritualist Centre
662 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8RS

The first session takes place after the separate Discover the Handpan beginner workshops on 28 November. Those earlier workshops are not included in this course ticket, and you do not need to attend them first.

What to Expect

Together, we’ll explore the three core pillars of music:

  • Rhythm: develop a steady pulse, coordination and flowing patterns.
  • Melody: connect notes into musical phrases and discover your own ideas.
  • Harmony: explore how notes work together to create different moods.

Throughout the course, you’ll also:

  • Develop your touch and technique to bring out a clear, balanced sound.
  • Build patterns you can practise and develop at home.
  • Learn to combine rhythm and melody.
  • Explore improvisation in an approachable, supportive way.
  • Play alongside others and receive individual guidance.

The aim is to give you a foundation you can keep building on, while enjoying the process of learning.

Who Is This For?

This course is suitable for:

  • Previous workshop participants who want to continue learning.
  • Complete beginners looking for a guided introduction over several sessions.
  • Handpan owners who would like more direction and confidence.
  • Anyone interested in a creative musical practice, with or without previous musical experience.

You don’t need to own a handpan to join. Choose the rental-inclusive ticket to have an instrument to practise on between lessons.

You’ll receive your rental handpan, including a soft bag at the first session on 28 November and bring it with you to each remaining lesson. The return of the instrument will be at the end of our third session on 9 December.
If you decide to purchase an instrument from us while renting one the rental amount will be credited towards your purchase. If you have any questions please get in touch at [email protected] or directly on our Instagram/Facebook page.

The price consists of £150 for tuition and £150 for instrument rental for the three week period. The instrument is provided on loan and remains the property of Cambridge Handpan School.

About Your Teacher

The course is led by Seraphim Zlatev, founder of Cambridge Handpan School, handpan performer, composer and educator.

Originally from Sofia and now based in Cambridge, Seraphim performs and teaches across the UK. His teaching experience includes helping lead workshops at the London Handpan Academy, alongside James Crossley.

His approach makes rhythm, melody and harmony accessible through practical exercises, creative exploration and encouragement, helping students feel comfortable with the instrument from the start.

After the Course

If you’d like to keep learning, there will be opportunities to discuss further lessons after the holidays, one-to-one tuition and instrument options.

There is no commitment to continue beyond these three sessions.

Cancellation Policy

Bookings may be cancelled for a full refund up to 7 days before the first session on 28 November.

Cancellations within 7 days of the course starting are non-refundable, as places and instruments are reserved in advance.
