About this Event
Growing a dental practice today looks very different than it did even five years ago. Rising real estate costs, evolving affiliation and DSO models, and increasing competition for prime locations mean practice owners have more opportunities to consider — but also more decisions to make when planning their next phase of growth.
This session will explore the growth pathways available to dental practice owners today, from organic expansion and new builds to affiliation and DSO partnership models. Attendees will gain practical insight into how to evaluate these options based on their goals, as well as the real estate and lease considerations that can shape the success and long-term value of a practice.
The session will also take a closer look at the lease through the lens of a future buyer. While owners often view a lease primarily as an occupancy cost, buyers and lenders see it as an important valuation and risk factor. Remaining term, assignment language, guarantee obligations, and building ownership can all influence a transaction — potentially affecting the value of a practice or even putting a deal at risk.
By connecting growth, operational, real estate, and lease strategy, this session will give dentists a clearer framework for making decisions today that can position their practice for sustainable growth, greater value, and a stronger transition when it is time to sell.
Featured Speaker
Eric Nuss
Eric Nuss is the founder of XpoNential Management, where he works as an outsourced operator for practice owners who want their businesses to run successfully without their day-to-day involvement. He is also the author of The Broke(n) Part(s), a firsthand account of what can break inside a fast-growing practice and how to recognize the warning signs.
With more than 25 years in the dental industry, Eric has advised more than 4,500 practices and closed over 100 transactions on both sides of the table. He built a national dental business services and education division from the ground up to more than $50 million in annual revenue, developed its curriculum, and served as CEO of a 14-practice group.
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify key growth pathways available to dental practices today — from organic expansion and new builds to affiliation and DSO partnership models — and evaluate which approach best aligns with their goals.
- Understand the real estate and lease considerations involved in expanding an existing practice or developing a new location, including the factors that can affect long-term flexibility and value.
- Recognize the lease factors that influence practice valuation and understand what buyers and lenders look for during due diligence, including remaining term, assignment provisions, guarantees, and building ownership.
- Apply practical strategies for the next phase of growth by connecting practice, real estate, operational, and lease decisions to both immediate objectives and long-term transition or sale plans.
