— Amal Alhomsi////////In a world that seems at the end of its ropeThe GBA are a beacon of hopeA lighthouse to guide you through chaos and thunderA spaceship to take you and wake you to wonderWelcome my friend to the Planet of SongWhere the sunflowers riseAt the sound of the gongAnd somewhere a radio, late ’66Plays the Great Balancing Act’s Greatest HitsAnd you’re hit with these harmoniesHit!In a fun way!Like hit with the taste of a caramel sundaeA cosmic dessert in a bowl full of starsA Spoonful of drums in a glass of guitarsSprinkled with banjo, flute and fiddleAnd you’re hit with the answerThe rhyme to the Riddle:The cherry on topOf this fresh exotic pop(Listen anew)Is none other than youThe Great Balancing ActTaste them again for the first time. Watching Petunia felt dangerous. The band, a mismatch of outlaw-looking musicians dressed for a bank robbery somewhere west of the Mississippi, seemed less assembled than summoned from some ancient American underworld. When they walked onto the stage, Petunia smiled at the spectators. He drew a quiet breath and then asked for the lights to be switched off. I’m not sure how to prove this, but I’m convinced that the entire set was part of a conjuring ritual. We were left there in the dark, looking up at the band as they performed their black and beautiful magic. This is not hyperbole. I truly felt that Petunia was a magician capable of rolling time and space the way he rolled his cigarettes. Halfway through the show, Petunia told the story of Billy the Kid, and for about fifteen minutes, I could not move my neck. I became completely transfixed. I was with Billy. And every time Petunia pointed his finger gun and fired, the scene changed. Another time. Another place. Another life. And the only way back was if Petunia said so — Amal Alhomsi
