About this Event

To mark the presentation of the Trinity European Laureate Award to international human rights lawyer Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, the Trinity Long Room Hub will host a major discussion exploring the future of human rights and freedom of expression.

At a time of increasing geopolitical instability, growing threats to journalists and human rights defenders, declining trust in institutions, and mounting pressure on democratic societies and the rule of law, an expert panel will consider how we can protect the rights and freedoms that underpin our societies and the role that civil society and citizens can play in doing so.

Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC has spent more than two decades defending human rights and freedom of expression. She has acted in landmark cases before international courts and UN bodies, representing journalists, activists, and human rights defenders worldwide, including Nobel Laureate Maria Ressa and some of the families of the Hillsborough disaster.

The Trinity European Laureate Award, established by the Trinity Long Room Hub in partnership with Teneo, recognises individuals and organisations who have made an exceptional contribution to European public life and to the values that are central to our shared European future.

Places are limited, and advance registration is essential.

This is a free event. In the event of late arrival, your seat may be reallocated. Admission will not be permitted more than 15 minutes after the event begins.
