Experience Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and The Lark Ascending by candlelight in the magnificent surroundings of Carlisle Cathedral.
About this Event

Experience breathtaking music by some of classical music’s greatest composers, performed by some of the country’s finest musicians in the stunning candlelit surroundings of Carlisle Cathedral.

At the heart of the concert is Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, the most recorded work in classical music and a defining showpiece for solo violin. Each concerto depicts a different season, transforming the natural world into vivid musical scenes of birdsong, buzzing flies, harvest celebrations, summer storms and winter ice.

Alongside this, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending offers a more reflective vision. Composed on the eve of the First World War and inspired by George Meredith’s poem, its soaring violin line evokes a lark gliding high above a pastoral world on the brink of change.

The concert opens with Mozart’s exhilarating Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening of music by candlelight.

Whether you’re already a classical music lover or experiencing it for the first time, this is a programme to be enjoyed by all.
