About this Event
The Exchange Table DC: Career Crossroads
Bring one question you haven’t solved. Leave with three perspectives you hadn’t considered.”
Most professional events are built around a stage.
One person talks.
Everyone else listens.
The Exchange Table works differently.
This is a two-hour rotating conversation experience for a small group of people from different professions, backgrounds, and stages of life.
There is no keynote presentation and no traditional audience.
Instead, you arrive with one real question.
You sit at a small table.
You talk with other guests and an experienced conversation guide.
Twenty minutes later, you move.
By the end of the evening, you will have explored your question from several different perspectives — and helped other people think differently about theirs.
THIS MONTH: CAREER CROSSROADS
The first Exchange Table explores moments when the next professional step is not obvious.
You might be thinking about:
• changing industries
• taking on a different kind of role
• leaving work that no longer fits
• deciding between stability and experimentation
• returning after time away
• navigating uncertainty in your professional direction
• building experience in a new field
• choosing between several reasonable paths
You do not need to arrive with a polished question.
You only need something genuine enough to discuss.
HOW THE EXCHANGE TABLE WORKS
The room is arranged into small conversation tables rather than rows of audience seating.
Each table includes a conversation guide with relevant real-world experience.
Guides are not there to give a presentation.
Their role is to help the table examine the question, introduce useful perspectives, and keep the conversation practical and balanced.
Guests rotate through three different conversation rounds during the evening.
Each round lasts approximately 20 minutes.
No single person is expected to dominate the discussion.
Everyone is encouraged to ask, listen, contribute, and make room for another point of view.
YOUR QUESTION
Before the event, take a little time to consider one question you genuinely want to explore.
It does not have to be profound.
It does not need to have one correct answer.
A useful question is usually specific enough to discuss but open enough for several people to see it differently.
Examples:
“What would I need to know before changing industries?”
“How do you know when staying in a role is patience and when it is avoidance?”
“What matters most when choosing between two good opportunities?”
“How do you rebuild professional confidence after starting over?”
You are welcome to bring a completely different question.
CONVERSATION GUIDES
Each table includes a guide selected for relevant practical experience.
A guide may have built a company, changed careers, worked across public and private sectors, managed teams, advised organizations, or navigated a significant professional transition.
Specific guide backgrounds will vary by edition.
Guides participate as experienced conversation partners rather than lecturers.
Their comments reflect their own knowledge and experience and should not be treated as individualized legal, financial, medical, mental-health, or other professional advice.
