Your empathy made you a leader people trust. It might also be the thing quietly burning you out.
When caring turns into carrying, when boundaries feel like abandonment, and when every conversation, crisis, and expectation gets dropped into an invisible backpack that never empties, something has to give. This session exposes the empathy trap: why your brain hates unfinished stories, why behavior is almost never the real problem, and why the most compassionate leaders are often the ones most at risk of confusing responsibility with ownership. You will learn to read what is actually happening beneath a difficult conversation instead of reacting to what is on the surface, and to draw a clear, sustainable line between what is yours to hold as a leader and what was never yours to carry in the first place. Leave with a practical framework for leading with both compassion and boundaries, without losing yourself in the process.
You will learn how to:
- Differentiate between responsibility and ownership.
- Accurately diagnose what is really happening in a difficult workplace situation.
- Determine which type of response, teaching, coaching, support, or referral a given situation requires.
- Apply a framework for separating what is yours to hold as a leader from what belongs to others.
