**The E.A.V. Trio live at Eddie’s Attic!**The E.A.V. Trio was born on Monday nights. For years, pianist Kenny Banks Jr., drummer Larry Wilson, and bassist Joel Powell anchored the weekly jam session at TenATL in East Atlanta Village, and somewhere in the middle of all those late nights, something clicked. The name came naturally — a nod to the neighborhood that shaped them, the gritty, charming, defiantly artistic culture of EAV that seeped into their music and their bond as much as any influence they could name.
Kenny Banks Jr. is one of the most dynamic jazz pianists in the Southeast, a finalist in the 2019 American Pianists Awards whose gospel and blues-infused technique has taken him around the world alongside Kurt Elling, Keyon Harrold, Jazzmeia Horn, and Theo Croker. Downbeat Magazine calls his arrangements “thrilling, modern and surprising.”
Larry Wilson is one of Atlanta’s most sought-after jazz drummers and the host of two of the city’s most beloved jam sessions. A producer, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader whose collaborations have earned Grammy, Stellar, and Rhythm of Gospel nominations, Wilson leads four active ensembles including the 20-piece Black Gold Orchestra.
Joel Powell is an Atlanta bassist and recent Master of Music graduate in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University who has been a cornerstone of the city’s jazz scene for years.
Three musicians, one neighborhood, countless Monday nights. This is the E.A.V. Trio.
