Blues and groove will be at the forefront for the next Tampa Jazz Club show, as it presents the Dominic Walker Trio on Sunday, December 14, at 3:00 PM. These Sunday afternoon concerts are part of the HC Visual and Performing Arts Series and are held in the Mainstage Theater at Hillsborough College (formerly HCC). The venue is located at 1411 E. 11th Avenue in Tampa.
Guitarist Dominic Walker has been ever-present on the jazz scene in Tampa Bay since he received his Masters of Improvisation from USF nearly a decade ago. He was also a host on WUSF radio’s “All Night Jazz,” can now be heard on WMNF radio’s “Jazz in the Night,” and for the last two years, has anchored a Friday night live music residency at DI Coffee Bar on Davis Island.
Walker will be joined by a pair of well-known, fellow USF jazz alumni: organist and keyboard wiz, Dr. John C. O’Leary III, of Best of the Bay trio La Lucha fame, and powerhouse drummer extraordinaire, Paul Gavin, whose own bands have headlined all over the state.
The trio specializes in a bluesy mix of standards, originals, and selectively unique, sometimes twisted, cover songs, with a sound reminiscent of guitar great Wes Montgomery’s work with the legendary jazz organist, Jimmy Smith.
Fresh off of the release of their 2025 album, “Hurricane Summer,” a recording formed during the throes of those massive storms we experienced last year, be sure to join us as The Dominic Walker Trio forecasts some gale force riffs combined with torrents of soul for a fabulous Sunday afternoon of music.
