Step into the immersive world of the Florida Wind Band’s “Lights Out” Chamber Series, where music and myth converge in the beauty of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. Featuring an evocative woodwind quartet and guided by Artistic Director Matthew McCutchen as narrator, this performance retells the ancient tale of Persephone, the goddess whose footsteps shape the seasons. Follow her journey from sunlit meadows to the shadowed depths of the Underworld — a story of innocence, power, and transformation. With each musical phrase, the myth comes alive: the flutter of the flute as Persephone, the rich sorrow of the oboe as Demeter, the low whispers of bassoon as Hades, and the nimble steps of clarinet as Hermes. This is not just a concert. It’s a theatrical voyage into the heart of a goddess through love, loss, and the eternal turning of the earth. Are you interested in an opportunity to get to know our organization and to learn about the music before you experience it? Join Executive Director, Tony Negron and Music Director, Matt McCutchen for a free pre-concert chat at 5:30pm in the sanctuary. The conversation will last about 20 minutes, leaving you with thoughtful insight into the programming behind The Descent & The Bloom and what plans are coming for Florida Wind Band!
