The Connors Center for Women’s Health Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, is pleased to announce our 9th Annual Research Symposium. The symposium aims to feature the substantial work and accomplishments of our Connors Center-funded pilot grant awardees and affiliated investigators who help fulfill this mission. Connors Center affiliated researchers and clinicians cover the breadth of the medical field at Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School, including and well beyond the field of obstetrics and gynecology."Throughout, there is a shared interest in promoting our understanding of and advancing care for women. The symposium will take place in-person and via zoom from 3-5pm in the Zinner Breakout Room at Brigham and Women's Hospital and will be followed by a reception.
Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Colloca is an MPower Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland and serves as the Director of the Placebo Beyond Opinions (PBO) Center at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and the co-Director of the Center to Advance Chronic Pain Research (CACPR) at University of Maryland. She holds an MD, a master’s degree in Bioethics, and a PhD in Neuroscience reflecting the interdisciplinary lens that defines her work. She completed postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and later held a senior research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Colloca is internationally recognized for her pioneering work on the neurobiology of placebo effects, particularly in chronic pain. Her research has fundamentally advanced our understanding of how learning, expectations, and social interactions shape pain perception and treatment outcomes. Dr. Colloca has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications, receiving over 24,300 citations (H-index: 73). Her work has appeared in leading journals including PAIN, JAMA, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Neurology, and Nature Digital Medicine. Beyond academia, her research has been featured by National Geographic, The New Yorker, Time, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal. Many of you may also recognize her from her TED Talk, where she brings the science of pain, placebo effects, and the remarkable capacity of the brain to influence health to life with exceptional clarity and impact.
