About this Event
The health of a population is not a question of strong health systems alone, it also depends on multiple other factors that sometimes gain less visibility in One Health conversations. This public talk will shed light on three of these factors: the commercial, digital and political determinants of health.
While we often think about genetic, biological, or perhaps social determinants of health, there are others that together form the structural context in which policymaking for human wellbeing and One Health takes place. This talk and panel discussion by three experts at the cross-section of health, business, and ethics will elaborate three of these structural factors: the commercial, digital, and political determinants of health.
Please join us as Dr Norah Campbell (TCD), Dr Nicole Gross (NCI), and Prof Susi Geiger (UCD) discuss how these varying determinants of health can impact the health of a population.
Following these discussions, Prof Tony Holohan (UCD One Health Centre) will moderate a panel discussion focused on answering one important question: what can our own policymakers do to redress some of these imbalances, and how can citizens themselves gain a voice in determining the best conditions for human and planetary wellbeing and liveable lives?
