About this Event
All are invited to attend a faculty-led lecture based on real classroom discussion during this fall semester's America250 programming. Dr. Geoffrey Ludvik will give a presentation on "The Classical Republican Roots of the Declaration of Independence".
This lecture explores the early history of representative government from the Near East through Greece and Rome. Its central claim is that the fundamental principles of American Republicanism originated not in the Thirteen Colonies but in the ancient Mediterranean world. By considering a series of textual case studies utilized in the St. Ambrose History I curriculum, it is possible to gain a deeper appreciation of our nation’s place in Western Civilization.
The event is free and registration is recommended, but not required.
