About this Event

Take a Seat, Leave a Legacy!
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is a leading institution dedicated to celebrating the African American experience. Our mission-driven organization is committed to documenting, preserving, and educating through captivating public programs, groundbreaking exhibitions, and culturally enriching educational initiatives. Many of these take place in our newly renovated 284-seat General Motors Theater, which hosts a diverse range of events-from films and lectures to performances-in an intimate, acoustically perfect setting.
By investing in a seat, you not only support our mission but also create a lasting legacy. Honor a loved one or put your name on a seat for 5 years, ensuring their memory is cherished and celebrated by future generations. Join us in making history today!

After purchasing a seat in the General Motors Theater, donors will receive a letter of acknowledgment, seat confirmation, and the opportunity to provide the inscription that will appear on their commemorative seat plate. Throughout the campaign, purchasers will be able to track the campaign's progress through updates available on the campaign site.
Once the campaign concludes and the commemorative plates have been installed, the Museum will host an unveiling reception to recognize and thank seat purchasers for their support. This event will provide donors with an opportunity to view their named seats and celebrate the impact of their contribution.
Individuals who purchased seats prior to the current campaign will continue to be recognized, and their commemorative plates will be reinstalled as part of this campaign. Due to modifications to the General Motors Theater's layout completed in 2024, some previously purchased seats required relocation. As a result, the Museum will make every effort to communicate the current placement of those seats to the original purchasers and their families, where possible.
Thank you for leaving a legacy with The Wright. Your support ensures that stories, history, and culture will continue to educate and inspire future generations.
