The Mahoning Drive-In family recently suffered a tremendous loss with the unexpected passing of Jonathan Miksch, known affectionately as “Mr. Bones”. If you saw a Mahoning photo op over the last decade or so that featured extensive lighting, smoke effects and, well, bones…chances are Jonathan was the mad mind behind that, taking the amazing work of our décor team and kicking it up a notch with his expert enhancements.
One of Mr. Bones’ favorite films was a certain Joe Dante cult favorite about the macabre underbelly of everyday suburbia, so in tribute, we present a very special Thread-Up Thursday in his honor…
On Thursday, October 1st…The Mahoning Drive-In Theater’s Thursday Thread-Up presents THE ‘BURBS (1988) on 35mm!
He’s a man of peace in a savage land.. Suburbia!
Looking for a weeknight reason to celebrate celluloid? Join us at The Mahoning Drive-In Theater for Thursday Thread-Up! From grindhouse to arthouse, cult classics to deep cuts, we present a series of single-feature 35mm screenings several Thursday nights a month, to get you ready for the weekend!
Tom Hanks stars as a normal guy, with normal kids, and a normal wife (Carrie Fisher), who, along with his neighbors, suspects that the occupants of that weird, unkempt house at the end of the street may be up to nefarious nocturnal activities. As rumors and suspicions grow, so does their paranoia, building to a fever pitch of intense blind-peering and looky-loo-dom, in Joe Dante’s savage satire of suburbia with a touch of pitch-black humor.
With Rick Ducommun, Bruce Dern, Corey Feldman, Courtney Gains, Gale Gordon, Brother Theodore, and Dick Miller!
Preceded by a special video tribute to our friend, artist and fellow movie maniac, Jonathan Miksch.
Gates open at 6pm, showtime at 7:30.
Tickets are $8.00 General Admission, $5 for children 12 and under and Mahoning Drive-In Patreon members.
