Body Percussion Workshop with Barbatuques (BRAZIL)

Duration: 1 hour.
The body is our first instrument, with rhythm naturally present through the heartbeat, respiration, and movement. Clapping, snapping, stomping, and slapping: the workshop renews this awareness and the playful act of sound-making, allowing participants to re-experience familiar sounds and generating new repertoires.
Join our beginner-friendly workshop suitable for all ages and backgrounds to explore body percussion and movement. Using your body to create rhythms offers an engaging way to foster connection and enhance focus among participants.
Practical Content
- Sound Exploration: Discovery of sounds produced by the body, including clapping (low, snapping, dripping), finger snaps, chest and cheek tapping, and basic vocal resources.
- Group Dynamics: Improvisation games and group activities such as the "Arrow Game" and "Echoes," which stimulate listening, cooperation, and concentration.
- Development: Focus on improving motor skills, rhythmic ability, and musical perception in a playful way.
About Barbatuques
Barbatuques is a pioneering São Paulo-based Brazilian percussion group known for creating music solely with the human body (body percussion) and voice, blending traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary styles such as beatboxing and electronic music.
Founded by the multi-instrumentalist and composer Fernando Barba, the group explores the body’s phonetic, rhythmic, and melodic possibilities to create a "body orchestra", gaining global recognition through performances in over 30 countries, events such as the Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony in 2016, educational workshops, and soundtrack contributions (including for the Rio 2 movie).
They are celebrated for their innovative, collective approach to sound, making body music a recognised art form and educational tool worldwide.
