The Black Tie Affair is an evening of formal dress and good company in downtown Salt Lake City. Not the kind of night you catch next time — the kind you remember having been at.
You arrive by red carpet. Beyond the doors: chandeliers, carved oak, a grand piano, and a room of people who all dressed for the same occasion. Painters work at their easels through the evening, so the room's portrait of itself takes shape while you watch. Hors d'oeuvres are passed without pause. The music builds in movements — a pianist to begin, live players as the room warms, a DJ once it has — and the final hour belongs to whoever is still on the floor.

All night — Passed hors d'oeuvres, and painters at work
YOU ARE THE EVENING
The chandeliers are set. The piano is tuned. The painters have their brushes. What the room is waiting for is you.
Gentlemen — the tuxedo: black dinner jacket, black bow tie, white dress shirt. This is the one night a year the tux earns its place in your closet, and you'll be glad it did. A well-cut dark suit with a black tie is every bit as welcome, and you'll wear it well.
Ladies — floor-length is the tradition, and there is nothing like the moment a gown enters a room. A formal midi or a sharp cocktail dress carries the same power. Wear the one that makes you stand a little taller.
There is only one rule: dress like you meant to be seen. Because you will be.
The room is beautiful, but the room is not the show. You are. Black tie is the one thing every guest shares before they arrive — and it is why a room of strangers spends the night like a room of old friends.
