Get ready for an extraordinary night of rhythm, culture and groove as BLACK JESUS eXPERIENCE (BJX) take over LIVE@ The Grand Room.
One of Melbourne’s most distinctive and internationally acclaimed live acts, BLACK JESUS eXPERIENCE bring together the power and beauty of traditional Ethiopian music with an irresistibly danceable fusion of funk, jazz and hip-hop.
Fronted by Ethiopian-born singer Enushu, whose hauntingly beautiful vocals draw upon the traditions of her homeland and her remarkable life journey, alongside Zimbabwe-born poet and MC Mr Monk, BJX is a seven-piece musical force built for the live stage.
Across two decades, the band has released nine albums, including two celebrated collaborations with legendary Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatke, and taken its unmistakable sound across five continents.
Their international journey has included performances at Glastonbury, WOMAD, SAKIFO, Bushfire and Wasserfest, along with appearances in Ethiopia for the African Union 50th and 60th Anniversary celebrations.
Now BLACK JESUS eXPERIENCE bring that incredible energy to the intimacy of The Grand Room for a night where Ethiopian tradition meets contemporary Melbourne — and the dance floor is very much part of the experience.
THE NIGHT

8:30 PM — BLACK JESUS eXPERIENCE TAKES THE STAGE
The lights go down and BLACK JESUS eXPERIENCE take the stage, bringing their irresistible fusion of Ethiopian song, funk, jazz and hip-hop to The Grand Room.
Led by the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Enushu alongside the lyrical energy of Mr Monk, BJX deliver a live performance driven by rhythm, improvisation and the rich musical traditions that have shaped their unmistakable sound.
Expect infectious grooves, extraordinary musicianship and a room full of energy as this internationally acclaimed seven-piece takes audiences on a journey from the musical traditions of Ethiopia to the multicultural heartbeat of contemporary Melbourne.
