Bringing documentary films from around the world to Baner, The Black Box Film Festival is a neighbourhood indie film festival that started in 2025, with the view to keeping conversations and solidarities at the centre of the film viewing experience.
This year’s theme ‘The Labour Chronicles. Work, Resilience & Resistance brings stories of the collective spirit of workers and their struggles against oppressive and exploitative conditions of work across the globe. Together these films compel us to think about the invisible hands which make our world work.
The film festival truly embodies the spirit of the small and indie, taking place in the basement of The Black Box which we have converted into an intimate film viewing experience. It is made possible by the generosity of the filmmakers who have shared their films with us.
So come sit with your cushions and let’s watch, think, wonder, and talk together.
This year’s line-up includes films which have been screened in the most prestigious film festivals around the world such as Busan International Film Festival, Seoul Independent Film Festival, Hot Docs, Sundance Film Festival, Adeliade Film Festival, Berlinale, and so on.
