About this Event
This talk looks at the affinities between Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) and Claude Monet (1840-
1926) as a way to look at their famous works through a different perspective. Hokusai never knew
Monet, but Monet knew Hokusai through his work and was transformed by the older artist's
images of nature. We'll first introduce the innovative landscapes of Hokusai and what made them
distinct for the time. We'll then see how Monet got his hands on the work of Hokusai and how it
forever impacted his approach to making art.
