About this Event
The recitation of the Qur’an is an art that has always been savoured among the Muslim community across different sects and traditions. For many, it represents the oldest and highest form of Islamic art: the Prophet Muhammed himself (peace be upon him) is reported to have loved hearing beautiful recitation of the Qur’an. What is less well-known is the diversity of this art form: the Qur’an has ten different modes of being recited. Hameem Islam, a respected reciter of the Qur’an, will guide festival attendees, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, through this fascinating history and living tradition with beautifully-voiced demonstrations and accessible explanations.
Please note that doors will close shortly before the advertised time so we request that you arrive 15 minutes before the start time.
About The Cambridge Festival of Islamic Arts
The Cambridge Festival of Islamic Arts runs from 19 to 29 November 2026, bringing performances, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops to Cambridge's historic colleges, museums, and cultural spaces. Open to everyone, the festival celebrates the beauty and diversity of Islamic arts, and, fifty years on from the landmark 1976 World of Islam Festival, carries that spirit into our own time.
