Yvette Grutter is a Mexican-Swiss-American artist based in Houston, Texas. A graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio, her work brings together printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and handmade paper to explore memory, identity, nature, and personal experience.Working from her studio at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, Yvette has exhibited internationally in the United States, Mexico, Switzerland, Spain, and Turkey. In 2025, she was named a Cultural Ambassador by the Government of Mexico in recognition of her commitment to promoting Mexican culture and traditions abroad.
For more than four decades, Yvette has also shared her passion for art through teaching and workshops, including programs at The Menil Collection.
Her newest body of work brings together paper handmade by the artist and the delicate integration of flowers. The process has required extensive research and experimentation to determine which flowers can withstand papermaking, particularly the use of hot water, without breaking down or losing their character.
This October 3, she brings this work to The Woodlands for a special solo exhibition and papermaking workshop at Altar Aqua Studio.
