About this Event
Through experiential exercises integrating music, acting, movement, expressive arts, reflection, and interpersonal engagement, participants will examine how their own presence influences the therapeutic environment. Particular attention will be given to noticing verbal and nonverbal cues, remaining responsive in the present moment, supporting authentic expression, and using creative approaches to deepen connection while maintaining appropriate professional and therapeutic boundaries.
This collaborative training from MEACO and Acting Out of Character (AOC) bridges the worlds of behavioral health, expressive arts, and acting to expand the practitioner’s relational toolkit. Participants will leave with increased awareness of how creative and performance-based principles can complement established therapeutic approaches and with practical strategies for cultivating more intentional, responsive, and human-centered therapeutic relationships.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify principles of music, acting, and expressive arts that can support connection and engagement within the therapeutic relationship.
- Describe how acting-based tools such as active listening, improvisation, embodiment, nonverbal awareness, and presence can inform therapeutic practice.
- Demonstrate increased awareness of verbal, emotional, and nonverbal cues that influence moment-to-moment interpersonal connection.
- Apply experiential techniques that support attunement, authentic expression, responsiveness, and relational safety.
- Examine the role of practitioner presence and self-awareness in developing and sustaining meaningful therapeutic relationships.
