The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret is pleased to host a most poignant temporary exhibition for the month of September: The All-Ears Art Project, A Poetic Soundscape of Unheard Clinician Sentiments created by artist Dr Anupa Sahdev. The soundscape will be played in the operating theatre at certain times during our opening hours, but it will be available to listen on mobile devices as well.
Below is a description of the project in Dr Anupa Sahdev’s words:
The All-Ears Art Project
This immersive art exhibition presents a poetic soundscape of unheard clinician sentiments and narratives, delving into the heartfelt experiences and reflections of those on the front lines of our healthcare system.
Anchored on real life experiences and viewpoints of NHS clinicians, the soundscape incorporates expressive and sensory generative poems echoed in the voice of 19th century poet John Keats (1795-1821), revealing the emotional landscapes of four dedicated fictional health workers. You will journey through their personal experiences and emotive expressions accompanied by evocative sound motifs capturing their personas, feelings, and contexts.
These elements not only reflect the political and health system pressures impacting clinicians but also highlight their innately caring nature. I invite you to listen deeply to each clinician’s narrative and let your imagination wonder! The simple act of listening offers empowerment and displays your solidarity whilst celebrating their unwavering dedication. This art project stands as an act of care to the carers and a call to acknowledge the human essence within the medical profession that is often overlooked.
Thank you for joining me on this journey of care. I hope this experience deepens your appreciation for the incredible individuals serving within the NHS and inspires a broader conversation about the importance of mental and emotional well-being in healthcare.
Warm regards,
Dr Anupa Sahdev
