Bring Your Baby Guided London Walks are sensitively devised to suit parents and carers of even the tiniest babies to enjoy London’s history.
About this Event

Walk Starts: Under the awning of Green Park Station (Green Park side) Piccadilly, London, England W1J 9DZ

Walk Ends: Grosvenor Square (home of The Bridgertons!)

With a 50 minute stop for lunch/coffee halfway at The Royal Academy where there is also a baby change. At this time you will be given time to change baby, get what food and drink you need from the cafe at The Royal Academy or many outlets on Piccadilly, and meet me back in the Royal Academy courtyard (I will show you exactly where).

'Bring Your Baby' Guided London Walks are sensitively devised to suit parents and carers of even the tiniest babies to enjoy London’s history. We can stop whenever you like to feed and change - without the stress of feeling you are holding up the group. Because every participant brings their baby, patience and baby’s needs are at the forefront of each walk.

You are welcome to bring friends and family who do not also have a baby.

This walk takes place around Mayfair in Central London, where you'll see and hear about:

  • Grosvenor Square, home to The Bridgertons and The Featheringtons.
  • The premises of John Murray Publishers, not only visited here by their client Jane Austen, but by the other writers on their books, Lord Byron, Charles Darwin and Arthur Conan Doyle. Hear how disaster struck here when Byron’s memoirs were burned in the fireplace.
  • The site of ‘Gunters’, a real-life tearoom on Berkeley Square used several times as a location in Bridgerton where its’ fashionable iced desserts are enjoyed by characters in Season 1, and most recently in Season 3, part 2.
  • Bond Street, well-known to Jane Austen, and where Mr Willoughby has lodgings in Sense & Sensibility.
  • The sites of inns where Jane Austen stayed and began “already to find my morals corrupted”, close to the principal place for boarding and alighting mail and stagecoaches (which Jane would have taken to travel to London from Bath and Chawton).
  • Where you would have found Gentleman John Jackson’s Gymnasium, who taught boxing during ‘the season’ to people including The Prince Regent and Lord Byron. You’ll also hear about real-life bare-knuckle boxer Bill Richmond, undoubtedly the inspiration for Bridgerton’s Will Mondrich.
  • Locations mentioned in Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility, such as the street in which Elinor and Marianne stay while Marianne pines for Mr Willoughby to visit.
  • ‘Leader of Fashion’ - and original dandy - Beau Brummell’s house. Style inspiration for many a Bridgerton boy.
  • Burlington Arcade, which opened in 1819, “for the sale of jewellery and fancy articles of fashionable demand, for the gratification of the public". To retain its Regency decorum, the arcade bans singing, humming, hurrying, and "behaving boisterously".
  • The location in the Bridgerton books where Julia Quinn erroneously (see why!) placed Violet Bridgerton after she moved out of Bridgerton House.
  • Purdey’s, spoken of as ‘the finest gunmaker in London’. Gun and pistol duels such as that between Simon Basset and Anthony Bridgerton, were commonplace in Georgian times.
  • Stories behind other fashionable Regency retailers, such as bookshops and wigmakers.

Babies and toddlers will love looking up at buildings, so this is also a great sensory experience.

If on the day of the walk we are forecast to have very bad weather, I may have to postpone the walk. If it's a bit of light rain we will cope!

Every walk follows the usual health and safety guidelines, such as crossing at traffic lights where possible and having hazards pointed out to you at the start and along the route.

There may be times we have to stand in direct sunlight (although I will always choose shade where possible). Please bring all the necessary sun protection for yourself and your child.

It is recommended you bring appropriate drinks and snacks for the duration of the walk, especially if the walk takes place at lunchtime.

I will contact you with booking confirmation after you book. I will supply my mobile number in case of emergencies or in case you are running late. I will also ask you to provide me with a mobile number so you can be contacted for the purposes of the walk, but this is *not for marketing purposes*. Please note that if you are more than a few minutes late I may ask you to catch up with us.

If you like the look of any of my walks, but would prefer to book me privately, please make enquiries at [email protected]. This may particularly be the case if you have people interested who do not have babies.
