About this Event
Join the State of Vermont’s Office of Racial Equity for a powerful screening of “The Alabama Solution,” a documentary that exposes the realities of Alabama’s Pr*son system and centers the voices of those living within it. The film invites us to confront the human cost of incarceration, the forces that allow injustice to persist, and the urgent need for accountability and systemic change. Although the documentary focuses on Alabama, this event will also include a presentation connecting its themes to Vermont’s own J*il/Pr*son system—offering important context on why these issues matter here at home.
Light refreshments will be served beginning at 3:15 PM, when doors open for seating. The film screening will begin promptly at 4:15 PM. (Closed captioning will be available.)
Following the film, we will livestream a panel of experts from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, offering insights into the context, themes, and ongoing justice efforts highlighted in the documentary. After the panel, participants will have an opportunity to engage in a ORE-facilitated group discussion to help illuminate what we can do in our own state to learn from the film’s revelations from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
