Topic: Introduction to the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association
The Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association (CHTA) promotes and supports horticultural therapy across Canada, helping practitioners use structured, plant-based activities to improve wellbeing. Horticultural therapy engages people in purposeful gardening to strengthen physical ability, reduce stress, support memory, build confidence, and foster social connection. It benefits many populations — including older adults, people living with dementia, mental health clients, rehabilitation patients, youth, and community groups — by offering accessible, meaningful, nature-based experiences that enhance health and quality of life. This presentation highlights how CHTA champions this work and the impact horticultural therapy has across diverse populations.
Presenter: Erin Gilbart, PhD, Education Coordinator, Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association
