About this Event
About This Event
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, an institution founded in the aftermath of the Second World War on a promise of peace, equality, and shared humanity. Eight decades on, that promise is under pressure. Conflicts, climate breakdown, and rising inequality are reshaping the world, and the Global South is bearing the heaviest cost.
This free one-day event at King's College London brings together students, diaspora communities, academics, and civil society voices to celebrate the UN's founding ideals, examine its record from a Global South perspective, and look honestly at what reform must look like for the next 80 years.
Organised by UNA Global South, a recognised branch of UNA-UK, the event also marks the official launch of a year-long advocacy campaign to bring diaspora voices directly to the United Nations and Global South governments. This is not a passive event. Every view shared on the day, through open forum discussions and our feedback form, will be collated and formally submitted to the UN and international bodies of power.
What to expect on the day:
Keynote speeches from leading voices on global governance and the Global South. Panel discussions covering youth, diaspora, and the future of the UN. An open forum where your views are heard and recorded. Live music celebrating Global South culture. Free food with African, Middle Eastern, and vegetarian and vegan options. Evening networking with fellow students, professionals, and campaigners.
Who should come:
This event is open to everyone. It is particularly relevant for students and young professionals studying or working in international relations, politics, law, development, and social justice. Whether you are deeply familiar with the UN or simply curious about how the world is governed and who gets a say, you will find something here.
Why your attendance matters:
UNA Global South is building a network of diaspora voices committed to influencing the institutions that shape our world. Attending this event means your perspective becomes part of a formal submission. It also means joining a community of people who are done watching from the sidelines.
Free entry. All welcome. Registration required. Stay tuned for the agenda!
