The Pitt County Historical Society is delighted to host our annual Thanksgiving Tea on November 16, 2025 from 2-4 pm at the Higgs House Inn & Gathering Place (1112 Dickinson Avenue). Parking is available on the streets adjacent to the Higgs House. The JW Higgs House was built in 1903 and remained the home of Jacob Wilson Higgs and his wife Sadie Dixon Higgs until her death in 1975. The house was reopened as The Gathering Place and operated as a restaurant until the mid-1980s. The building returned to private ownership following the closure of the restaurant and was recently in danger of being torn down. Following last year’s Thanksgiving Tea, which was hosted in conjunction with Preservation NC, the Higgs House gained new owners and is currently being restored. As part of this year’s tea, guests will have an opportunity to hear from the new owners, Erin Scully and Kathryn Ross. They will be able to see the plans and hear about the work required to preserve and restore the historic Higgs House.
