About this Event
Now in its 18th year, Thangs Taken: Rethinking Thanksgiving continues to challenge and reshape the colonial "thanksgiving" narrative by centering Native resistance through art, music, dance, ancestral knowledge, and oral storytelling.
Guided by Indigenous organizers, this annual gathering serves as both medicine and movement building, a space for healing, reflection, and collective action. It brings together Native culture bearers, activists, and accomplices to advocate for land rematriation and Indigenous sovereignty, locally and globally.
Rooted in the belief that rematriation is essential not only for justice but for our collective future, Thangs Taken continues to connect art, ceremony, and activism as tools for transforamation.
As part of the broader network of Bay Area Indigenous traditions and activism, including the Alcatraz Indigenous Peoples' Sunrise Ceremony, Thangs Taken is a powerful reminder of resistance, resurgence, and the ongoing possibilities of #LandBack.
This is a family friendly event open to all who wish to engage in truth-telling, solidarity, and community healing.
Speakers, artists, and performers to be announced. Stay tuned!
All proceeds go directly to the Indigenous organizers of this gathering.

Honoring 10 Years of Shuumi Land Tax
This year also marks a historic milestone: the 10th anniversary of the Shuumi Land Tax, a voluntary rematriation program led by Sogorea Te' Land Trust. The first public annoucement of the Shuumi Land Tax took place at Thangs Taken 2015, formally launching Sogorea Té Land Trust's website and this visionary effort to return land to Indigenous stewardship.
