TVERC are a not-for-profit organisation hosted by Oxfordshire County Council. We collect, analyse and share geodiversity and biodiversity information in Berkshire and Oxfordshire to help people make sound decisions about how to develop and manage land sustainably, where to direct wildlife conservation work and for scientific education and research.

There are many people collecting information about our natural environment and by collating all this information at TVERC, everyone can get a better picture of the status and distribution of wildlife.

Info: Tom Ackland is one of four Countryside rangers who are responsible for managing just over 1100 acres of nature reserves and open spaces across Oxford City on behalf of Oxford City Council. This includes Shotover Country Park, Lye Valley, Chilswell Valley and Port Meadow. His talk will showcase the team’s habitat restoration projects that are ongoing across the city and the amazing variety of habitats the rangers are working to improve.

Info: Martyn Lane is the Nature Recovery Project Manager at Oxfordshire County Council and has over 20 years' experience in conservation land management with both BBOWT and OCC. The Black Poplar Project is a partnership led by the River Windrush Catchment Partnership alongside Long Mead Foundation, National Trust, BBOWT and TVERC, OCC and the Lower Windrush Valley Project. The project is identifying historic black poplar locations, verifying native specimens through DNA testing, and propagating cuttings to restore this rare native tree across the project area.

Info: How ecologists, researchers, conservationists and curators can produce 3D digital models; a practical presentation. The biggest obstacle for ecologists, researchers, conservationists, curators, etc, stopping them producing 3D digital models is the thought that it requires expensive and sophisticated equipment, enormous computing power, and years of experience to master. Think again. Each one of you carries the necessary technology in your pocket.
I have spent the last few months scanning various objects, flora and the odd cooperative fauna, in the field (literally) to produce 3D digital models. I have tried to second guess what 3D digital models ecologists, researchers, conservationists, curators, etc would want to produce. In the presentation, I will show some of the 3D digital models I have produced, describe the technologies available, and give practical demonstrations of how to scan objects to produce 3D digital models.
