"Supporting Parenting After Brain Injury"

Olivia's presentation explores the complex intersection between acquired brain injury and parenthood, including the physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural demands of parenting, the impact on family functioning, and how effective professional support can enable parents while safeguarding the needs of their children.

Bio:

Olivia Mannering is an independent social worker and Director of Cotswold Safeguarding Consultancy, with over a decade of experience supporting children, adults and families with complex needs. Her practice spans safeguarding, brain injury and rehabilitation, children's disability, mental health, child protection and complex family systems. She has extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams, chairing complex meetings, undertaking Mental Capacity and parenting assessments, and developing practical, bespoke support plans that promote safety, independence and improved long-term outcomes.

A central focus of Olivia's work is supporting families following life-changing injury. She works within medico-legal and rehabilitation frameworks to understand how brain injury can affect parenting, relationships and wider family functioning, combining trauma-informed practice with a strong understanding of adult and children's social care legislation. Her approach is person-centred, practical and outcomes-focused, with particular emphasis on ensuring that the voices of children and adults remain central to professional decision-making.
