All are welcome! Join us for community connections, storytelling and discussion about research findings identified by trans and non-binary people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Bonfire, s’mores and zines included!
More:
Over the last two months, TRANS Program has been collaborating with researcher Alo McGarigal (they/them)—a Community Psychology PhD student at Pacifica Graduate Institute—on a project called Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Voices of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Together, we invited a diverse group of eleven TGNC people living on the Gulf Coast to gather and share stories, make art, and identify shared community needs. Supported by a grant from the Abakanowicz Foundation, we facilitated art-based research on Friday nights.
The main project question explored was: What stories do we hold as TGNC people living on the MS Gulf Coast, and how do we best support each other’s ability to thrive, particularly with regard to the vital work of the TRANS Program?
A common thread in our story sharing was Biloxi Beach. It's been described as a place to feel calm and connected to ourselves. At the TGNC Voices Community Bonfire, we will share our work with the broader community. This sharing will include a collaborative community zine— for attendees to take in printed form or enjoy in digital form on the TRANS Program’s website, a panel discussion featuring project participants, their learnings and findings, larger community conversation, s'mores and relaxed vibes as we watch the sun set.
