About this Event

As part of Taiwan Film Festival in Scotland 2026: From the Mountain, From the Sea, we are delighted to present the European Premiere of April (丟包阿公到我家), directed by Freddy Tang (唐福睿).

After years of hard work, April, a Filipino migrant worker, must return home with the ailing Taiwanese grandfather she cares for before her critically ill mother passes away. Meanwhile, Ah Wei, the grandfather's recently released son, returns home only to find the house empty. In these two parallel journeys of return, both April and Ah Wei carry unspoken secrets. As they navigate unfamiliar relationships and shifting family dynamics, they discover that coming home is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new one.

Balancing humour and tenderness, April explores migration, care, ageing, and family across cultural and generational boundaries. Through its moving portrayal of caregiving and belonging, the film offers a thoughtful reflection on the connections that bind people together even when separated by distance, circumstance, and time.
