Call for PapersTexas Medieval Association 2027 (April 16-17)
The Fingerpost: Marginalia, Manuscripts, Incunabula, and Books
The Texas Medieval Association invites paper submissions for its 2027 conference, to be held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. This year’s theme is marginalia, both actual and metaphorical, a theme that is intentionally broad and centers on the ways in which medievalists of all stripes rebuild and reconstruct the past by examining the traces left behind. Marginalia were often the first fragments of vernacular language, highlighting important or problematic points, sentences, and ideas within a text, laying down a foundation upon which an entire scholastic and intellectual tradition would be based. In conjunction with Baylor Libraries, we will sponsor an exposition of manuscripts, incunabula, and books. We will also sponsor a printing workshop through our printing laboratory.
As is TEMA tradition, papers on any topic, especially anything interdisciplinary—AI, Digital Humanities, the environment, technology, art history, science, devotion—are welcome at the Annual Meeting , but especially encouraged are papers that address any topics related to the physical literary culture: marginalia, manuscripts, books, printing, and libraries.
Submit a 250 word abstract to [email protected] by December 15, 2026.
