Recommended age: All welcome from 14 years and up. Participants need sufficient fine motor skills to safely cut and scratch into the Tetra Pak plate.
What you will learn:
Madelize will guide you through the full Tetra Pak intaglio printing process:
Preparing the plate – Learn how a cleaned and opened Tetra Pak carton can be transformed into a printing plate while keeping its smooth metallic inner surface intact.
Create your image – Transfer your design and scratch or incise lines into the surface using suitable drawing and etching tools. These grooves will hold the printing ink.
Inking your plate
Wiping the plate – Remove excess ink using scrim while learning how different wiping techniques can also create beautiful tonal effects.
Preparing the paper – Learn how printing paper is dampened and prepared for intaglio printing.
Printing on an etching press
Creating an edition – create a collection of prints, while observing how the plate and image may subtly change with repeated printing.
