Contemporary artist Teresa Baker (Mandan and Hidatsa) presents a talk addressing her distinctive approach to painting that combines references to her Indigenous culture with abstract forms and nontraditional materials. Like much of her work, Baker’s "Time To Be Still" (2023)—newly acquired and on view at the Gallery—suggests the expansive landscape of the Northern Plains. Baker’s talk is followed by a conversation with Margaret Ewing, the Horace W. Goldsmith Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as a question-and-answer session. Generously sponsored by the Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund.
