TWO OUTSIDERS. ONE MOUNTAIN. A STORY HISTORY LEFT OUT.TENZING opens October 23rd at Tasveer Film Center.
Everyone knows Edmund Hillary was first to summit Everest. Almost no one talks about the man standing right beside him.
Based on true events, TENZING tells the little-known story of Tenzing Norgay, the gifted Himalayan climber who reached the top of the world alongside Hillary. Encouraged by his wife Dawa and backed by expedition secretary Jill Henderson, Tenzing fights to be recognized as a member of the British climbing team rather than merely serving it. Where Western climbers see "Everest" as something to conquer, Tenzing reveres Chomolungma as the sacred mother goddess. What follows is an ascent shaped as much by class, empire and competing ambitions as by the mountain itself.
Starring Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe, Caitríona Balfe and Thinley Lhamo. Directed by Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa, Mountain).
