The 2026 West Virginia Book Festival will present a series of programs and workshops during the event. All events and programs are free and open to the public. At 2:30 p.m., WV Public Broadcasting presents its Writer’s Workshop for Kids on the Festival’s Word Play Stage!
This interactive workshop explores songwriting and storytelling. Participants will discover how stories, memories, and imagination can inspire songs while learning the basics of lyric writing, rhythm, and how syllables help shape a melody. Young writers will explore how words and music come together to tell a story.
The event will also feature readings by the 2026 PBS KIDS Writers Contest winners as they share their winning stories. We encourage children in grades K-5 to stop by and join in on the fun!
