Mae pob plentyn yn haeddu cyfle teg i lwyddo, waeth beth fo’u cefndir. Mae’r ddarlith hon yn cyflwyno canfyddiadau o ymchwil doethurol, Addysg ar gyfer Symudedd Cymdeithasol, sy’n archwilio p’un a yw system addysg Cymru’n cau neu’n agor y bwlch rhwng cefndiroedd plant a’u cyfleoedd yn y dyfodol. Mae’r ddarlith yn herio naratifau ‘codi dyheadau’, llunio safbwyntiau plant am eu gobeithion ar gyfer y dyfodol, a chynnig strategaethau ymarferol yn seiliedig ar dystiolaeth er mwyn creu system addysg decach.

Mae Paula Wood yn ymchwilydd ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam sy’n gweithio gyda’r timau Cenhadaeth Ddinesig a’r Map Cyhoeddus ac mae’n academydd cyswllt Rhwydwaith Cyfiawnder i Bobl. Mae gan Paula lawer o brofiad fel gweithiwr proffesiynol addysg sydd wedi gweithio ar draws y sector addysg uwchradd ac ôl-orfodol oddi ar 1995.

Mae yna lawer iawn o ymchwil ar draweffaith ansefydlogrwydd bwyd, ond llai o safbwynt pobl ifanc. Ansefydlogrwydd bwyd yw un o nifer o broblemau sy’n cael traweffaith ar bobl ifanc ac mae’r ddarlith hon yn archwilio ymateb gwaith ieuenctid i hyn. Gall y dull Gwaith Ieuenctid gael ei gymhwyso i unrhyw un sy’n gweithio gyda phobl ifanc, ac mae hyn yn gyfle i edrych ar bwysigrwydd bob gyda’n gilydd, perthnasoedd, a sut all cymunedau annog ymdeimlad o rymuso ar gyfer grwpiau sy’n cael eu heithrio’n gymdeithasol. Bwriad y dull hwn sy’n seiliedig ar ased yw codi ymwybyddiaeth o fater cyfredol y gellir uniaethu ag o sydd nid yn unig yn effeithio ar bobl ifanc, ond y gymuned ehangach hefyd.

Gyda thros 20 mlynedd o brofiad o weithio gyda phlant a phobl ifanc, mae Sarah’n angerddol ynghylch gwerthoedd ac egwyddorion gwaith ieuenctid. Wedi iddi gyhoeddi papur ymchwil ar ddiffyg diogeledd bwyd yn ddiweddar, mae’n awyddus i archwilio problemau sy’n effeithio ar bobl ifanc, ac i weithio gyda hwy er mwyn amlygu eu lleisiau.

Every child deserves a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their background. This lecture presents findings from doctoral research, Education for Social Mobility, which examines whether Wales's education system narrows or widens the gap between children's backgrounds and their future opportunities. Drawing on data from secondary pupils in Wrexham schools and detailed biographical interviews with Welsh leaders, the research examines how social capital, self-efficacy, and the GCSE assessment system shape children's real chances of social mobility. The lecture challenges popular ‘raising aspirations’ narratives, shares children's perspectives on their hopes for the future, and proposes practical, evidence-based strategies to create a more equitable education system.

Paula Wood is a researcher at Wrexham University who works with the Civic Mission and the Public Map teams and is an academic associate of the People's Justice Network. Paula is a highly experienced education professional who has worked across the North Wales secondary and post-compulsory education sector since 1995.

There is a significant amount of research on the impact of food insecurity, but less so from young people’s perspectives. Food insecurity is one of many issues impacting young people and this lecture explores the youth work response to this. The Youth Work approach can be applied to anyone working with young people, and this is an opportunity to look at the importance of togetherness, relationships, and how communities can encourage a sense of empowerment for socially excluded groups. This asset-based approach aims to raise awareness of a current and relatable issue that not only affects young people, but the wider community too

With over 20 years’ experience of working with children and young people, Sarah is passionate about the values and principles of youth work. Having recently published a research paper on food insecurity, she is keen to explore issues that affect young people, to work together to amplify their voices.
