TEEN GROUP BREATHWORK AND NERVOUS SYSTEM WORKSHOP
Wednesday November 25th 2026
6:30–8:30 PM
You Room Studio, Downtown Vernon
$40 per person
Ages 13–17
What if understanding your nervous system could change the way you understand yourself?
This evening is designed to give teens a practical and approachable understanding of how the nervous system works, why anxiety and stress can feel so intense, and how we can learn to listen to the signals our bodies are sending us.
This is not a traditional group breathwork journey. Instead, we will explore what happens inside the body when our nervous system senses stress or danger, and why our internal alarm system can sometimes react to everyday situations as though we are facing a much bigger threat.
A stressful text message, a difficult conversation, school pressure, social situations, or feeling left out can sometimes create the same alarm bells in the body that were designed to protect us from physical danger. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent and protective, but they do not always know the difference between an emotional stressor and being chased by a bear.
Learning to recognise what is happening within us can create more space between the feeling and our reaction. When we become more aware of our nervous system, we can begin to understand when those alarm bells are signalling something that needs our attention and when they are simply asking us to pause, feel, process, and allow the nervous system to settle.
We will explore how emotions show up in the body, how pushing feelings away can sometimes leave us feeling more overwhelmed, and how developing awareness can help us move through emotions rather than becoming caught up in them.
We will also experience how breathwork can help quiet some of the mental noise when it feels like there are a hundred open tabs running at once. Through simple and accessible breath practices, teens will have an opportunity to experience what it feels like to slow racing thoughts, become more present, and reconnect with the signals coming from within.
As we develop this awareness, we can begin to build a stronger relationship with our own intuition. Instead of always looking outside ourselves for the right answer or allowing external expectations and pressures to determine what we should think, feel, or choose, we can begin to notice what our own body is telling us.
The intention is not to eliminate anxiety or difficult emotions. It is to understand them.
When we understand how our nervous system works, we can begin to respond to ourselves with more compassion, awareness, and choice. This can support emotional intelligence, self trust, confidence, and a stronger sense of who we are during a stage of life where so much can be changing so quickly.
During the workshop, teens will learn practical ways to:
Understand how the nervous system responds to stress and perceived threat
Recognise their own physical and emotional signs of nervous system activation
Create space between a feeling and their reaction
Use simple breathwork practices to settle racing thoughts and become more present
Become more comfortable noticing and processing emotions as they arise
Listen more closely to their body’s signals and intuition
Build emotional awareness and self trust
Feel more confident making decisions that are aligned with their own values and inner signals rather than only external pressure
