Hidden right here in Tauranga is an extraordinary geographical connection to Los Villares, a beautiful olive-growing town in Andalucía, southern Spain.
It's called an antipode — a location on the exact opposite side of the Earth. And incredibly, Tauranga and Los Villares share this rare land-to-land connection!

THE CHALLENGE
Join us as we meet at the famous Hairy Maclary sculptures on The Strand, before walking together along Tauranga's beautiful waterfront and across the Matapihi pedestrian bridge.
Using the free Otherside of the World mobile app, we'll navigate towards the exact antipodal location of Los Villares, Spain — aiming to complete our challenge down to the metre!
Imagine standing in Tauranga knowing that directly beneath your feet, on the opposite side of the planet, is a little Spanish town surrounded by olive groves!
LET'S CELEBRATE, SPANISH STYLE!
Bring a Spanish-themed picnic to share with your family and friends. Think tapas, olives, cheese, Spanish treats and a little Mediterranean atmosphere right here in the Bay of Plenty!
