What do elite sport, loneliness, relationship breakdown, financial pressure, ADHD, and menopause have to do with men’s mental health?
Potentially, a great deal, yet they are rarely brought together in the same public conversation.

On Saturday 24 October, Good Man Wellness and Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club (specifically Nick Dangerfield and Keith Bolton) will bring something new to our city: Tauranga’s first-ever dedicated Men’s Mental Wellness Forum.
We have called it ‘From Awareness to Action’ because men’s mental health is talked about more than ever, but too often, we still wait until a man is struggling badly before asking what is happening in his life and what might help.

This half-day Forum will bring together lived experience, clinical expertise and practical community insight to explore some of the less obvious factors affecting men’s mental health, and what we can actually do about them.
This will not be an academic conference or a day spent being talked at about depression and anxiety. We have deliberately created a varied and thought-provoking programme that approaches men’s mental wellness from several very different perspectives.

Our speakers will include:
Richie Barnett, former New Zealand rugby league captain and mental health advocate, sharing his lived experience of mental health challenges and what he has learned along the way.
Dr Caleb Armstrong, consultant psychiatrist, looking at neurodiversity, particularly ADHD, and how it can intersect with men’s mental wellness, relationships, work and everyday life.
Scott Harvey of Uokbro NZ, exploring what male partners can experience when menopause changes the dynamics of a relationship, and why greater understanding and communication matter for both partners.
And Dr Adam Harrison, former GP and founder of Good Man Wellness, exploring the social pressures and life circumstances that can push men towards crisis, and why we need to intervene much earlier.
The speakers will then come together for an interactive panel discussion, joined by Jim Smith from Kidz Need Dadz, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and explore the issues further.

The Forum is about men, but it is not exclusively for men. It is for everyone who cares about men’s mental health, including partners, family members, friends, employers, health professionals and community leaders.
