About this Event
Come to Maryhill Burgh Halls for the sixth talk in our new monthly series Connected Community.
Learning a language opens your eyes to different ways of understanding the world. Even to the country and people you grew up with. In this talk, Sara will share her personal journey and challenges of learning a minoritised language as an adult. She’ll also speak about the influences of Gaelic on the landscape and other languages in Scotland and how these discoveries have changed her outlook on life.
Come along to learn something new and enjoy soup and a sandwich.
Sara Roberston is a theatre practitioner and educator from Glasgow. Despite her grandparents not speaking English until they started school, Gaelic was lost to the family in her lifetime. She determined that this loss would only be for one generation and has spent the last 7 years learning the language and rediscovering herself on the way.
We don’t want cost to be a barrier to participation, therefore we are offering a range of pricing.
Please choose the one that is most relevant to you. All donations go directly to Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust (Scottish registered charity number SC036089) and allow us to provide a greater range of community events, accessible to all.
