Join us on Thursday, 17 September, for a talk by architect Nana Biamah-Ofosu. As founder and director of YAA Projects, she will present the work of the practice, which celebrates the multifaceted nature of architectural practice, exploring counter-histories, material and diasporic cultures through making, writing, and speaking architecture. Drawing on selected projects with leading cultural institutions, alongside her work as an educator and curator, Biamah-Ofosu will consider how research, cultural histories and material enquiry inform processes of making, and how these ideas are translated into architectural propositions. Aligned with her current research residency at the CCA for ‘Out of the Box: Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin’, this talk will explore her research on contemporary multigenerational, communal models of living based on the African Compound House typology, as well as her research on African modernity
Nana Biamah-Ofosu is one of the three guest-curators of our upcoming Out of the Box exhibition series dedicated to the work of Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin, architects in post-independence Nigeria whose archive was recently donated to the CCA.

Rejoignez-nous le jeudi 17 septembre pour une conférence de l’architecte Nana Biamah-Ofosu. En tant que fondatrice et directrice de YAA Projects, elle présentera le travail de son bureau, qui célèbre la nature multiforme de la pratique architecturale en explorant les contre-histoires, les cultures matérielles et diasporiques à travers la création, l’écriture et de transmission architecturales. S’appuyant sur une sélection de projets menés avec des institutions culturelles de premier plan, ainsi que sur son travail d’enseignante et de commissaire d’exposition, Nana Biamah-Ofosu examinera comment la recherche, les histoires culturelles et l’étude des matériaux influencent les processus de création, et comment ces idées se traduisent en propositions architecturales. Dans le cadre de sa résidence de recherche actuelle au CCA pour « Out of the Box : Gillian Hopwood et John Godwin », cette conférence explorera plus en détail ses recherches les modèles de vie communautaires et multigénérationnels contemporains basés sur la typologie de la « Compound House » africaine, ainsi que ses recherches sur la modernité africaine.
Nana Biamah-Ofosu est l’une des trois commissaires invitées de notre prochaine série d’expositions « Out of the Box », consacrée à l’œuvre de Gillian Hopwood et John Godwin, architectes du Nigeria de l’après-indépendance dont les archives ont récemment été données au CCA.
