The Swindon Philosophical Society meets again in one week’s time on Wednesday 11 November 2026. We will be meeting as ever at the Friends Meeting House at 7.30pm. The speaker is Neil Howard who will be speaking on Why We Can’t Just All Get Along Together. Neil says:Religion is only one of many ways in which our society seems to be increasingly divided but, as this talk falls within Inter-Faith Week (7-13 November), I specifically consider my concerns about religion – and its close cousin, multiculturalism. I agree with Nobel Laureate Daren Acemoglu when he says “I’m not an optimist, but I am hopeful because I think it’s only with hope that we can try to do things.” And so I will provide thoughts, ideas, and suggestions for constructive discussion. In Slavoj Žižek’s brutally sardonic words, I offer a ‘modest attempt … where people could live together without slaughtering one another.’
can we?
