About this Event
Join Attorney Nataly Kaiser on November 18 for a practical look at what happens when an estate plan doesn’t go as intended. Drawing on her experience in trusts and estates litigation in Illinois, Nataly will share real-world stories from the trenches and explain how disputes come up during trust administration and how they can be prevented or resolved.
The most commonly litigated claim in this area is breach of fiduciary duty by the person “in charge” of a trust or estate. Nataly will cover the warning signs every trustee, executor, and beneficiary should recognize:
- A lack of transparency, or requests for information that go unanswered
- Pressure to sign a release or waive the right to an inventory and accounting so things can be wrapped up “quickly”
- Being told there’s no need for lawyers or questions, and that you should “be happy with what you get”
- A false sense of urgency that makes it easier to cut corners
Attendees will leave knowing their rights, including the right to fully understand any release, waiver, or receipt before signing it, and why informed consent depends on a complete inventory and accounting backed by supporting records. The session is designed for trustees and executors who want to carry out their duties properly and avoid costly disputes, and for beneficiaries, heirs, and family members who have questions about how a trust or estate is being handled. It’s also valuable for financial advisors, CPAs, bankers, wealth managers, and attorneys whose clients serve as fiduciaries or receive inheritances.
Doors will open at 7:45 AM for a complimentary continental breakfast, and the presentation will begin at 8:00. This is a free seminar, but registration is required.
